Poster #1 In Vivo Biomechanical Evaluation of Third Generation Anterior Cervical Plate: A Radiostereometric Analysis
نویسندگان
چکیده
INTRODUCTION: The use of the anterior cervical plates has improved the postoperative fusion rates following multiple level cases. There are a number of plates available today and each plate addresses a different design philosophy. Fixed angle plates maintain a constant angle between the screw and the plate and have been implicated in stress shielding of the interbody graft resulting in pseudoarthrosis. Other plates have been designed to transfer more of the compressive force to the interbody graft by either allowing motion at the screw plate interface (variable angle plate) or allow linear translation of the vertebral body (dynamic plate). As of now, there is very little data comparing the settling characteristic of the different designs since it is nearly impossible to measure the postoperative micro-motion or settling in the cervical spine on routine radiograph. This prospective randomized study was designed to evaluate and compare the biomechanical properties of a variable angle plate to a dynamic plate in vivo using Radiostereometric Analysis (RSA).

In vitro biomechanical evaluation of four fixation techniques for distractive–flexion injury stage 3 of the cervical spine
PURPOSE Anterior plate fixation has been reported to provide satisfactory results in cervical spine distractive flexion (DF) injuries stages 1 and 2, but will result in a substantial failure rate in more unstable stage 3 and above. The aim of this investigation was to determine the biomechanical properties of different fixation techniques in a DF-3 injury model where all structures responsible ...
متن کاملBiomechanical Evaluation of Anterior Cervical Spine Fixation Devices
The anterior cervical plate fixation systems have been widely used in treatment of complex spinal disorders such as traumatic lesion, disc hernination, tumor, spondylosis, arthritides, and others. Combined with bone graft or other fusion techniques the satisfactory outcomes were higher than 88% (Clements 1990, Naito 1993,Bose 1998, Schneeberger 1999). Among the screw plate fixation systems, Cas...

STUDY DESIGN An in vitro biomechanical investigation of the immediate stability in cervical reconstruction. OBJECTIVES The purpose of this study was to compare the segmental stability afforded by the interbody fusion cage, the anterior locking plate, and the "gold standard" autograft. SUMMARY OF BACKGROUND DATA Recently, interbody fusion cage devices have been developed and used for cervica...
متن کاملBiomechanical study of a novel self-locking plate system for anterior cervical fixation
BACKGROUND Anterior cervical plate had developed continuously, and this study aimed to assess the biomechanics of a novel self-locking plate system for anterior cervical fixation designed by ourselves. METHODS Twelve anterior cervical plates (i.e., six novel plates and six DePuy plates) were subjected to a pull-out test and a fatigue test. In addition, 12 C1-T1 cervical spine specimens underw...
متن کاملDelayed Esophageal Pseudodiverticulum after Anterior Cervical Spine Fixation: Report of 2 Cases
Introduction: Although perforation of the esophagus, in the anterior cervical spine fixation, is well established, cases with delayed onset, especially cases that present pseudodiverticulum, are not common. In addition, management of the perforation in this situation is debated. Case Report: Delayed esophageal pseudodiverticulum was managed in two patients with a history of anterior spine fi...
